Frequently Asked Questions
Finchley Acupuncture

Does acupuncture hurt?

No, acupuncture does not hurt. Sometimes a dull pressure or tingling is felt around the area when the needle is inserted, but there is no pain. Most people are amazed by how relaxed they feel during and after the treatment. This can only occur if the treatment is comfortable and gentle.

There are alternative systems to stimulate the acupuncture points such as acupressure, laser pen stimulation and magnets, these systems are generally used on babies and children that tend to move too much during treatment.

Is acupuncture safe?

As long as it is in the hands of a competent practitioner, acupuncture is extremely safe. Acupuncturists are required by law in the UK to use disposable needles that are safely discarded after one use.

Is it possible to treat children and babies with Chinese medicine?

Definitely, we have experience treating common paediatric conditions such as abdominal pain and digestive problems, skin problems, low immunity causing recurrent colds and flu, asthma, bedwetting, diabetes symptoms, ADHD.

We treat children using laser pen stimulation on acupuncture points, magnets, massage on acupuncture points and gentle cupping therapy, and then we give parents a set of points to use on the child at home to help with the condition.

Children respond very well to treatments and it is a pleasure for the practitioner to see the happiness of the parents when children health gets better.

What is ryodoraku acupuncture?

In 1951 Dr. Yoshio Nakatani presented his research and theory of RYODORAKU Acupuncture. Dr. Nakatani had found that there were a series of low electrical resistance points (or high electrical conductivity) running longitudinally up and down the body. When linked together these points closely matched the acupuncture meridians. Dr. Nakatani called these lines (or meridians) “Ryodoraku” (ryo = good, 'do is (electro) conductive, 'raku = line).

At our clinic modern technology offers the possibility to use a Digital Meridian Imaging ™ system in order to measure the electrical skin conductivity at the most bioelectrically active points in the meridian. Your practitioner will use the system in a short examination by touching a moistened probe to acupuncture points on your hands and feet. Ryodoraku measurements allow the practitioner to measure and analyse the energy status of each acupuncture meridian and the state of balance of the energy in organs. This allows the practitioner to make better-informed decisions than ever before about your condition, and provide the best treatment possible.
